Job Description

Our Client, based in North Dublin is a 313 bedded private facility and a leading specialist of old age Psychiatric and Alzheimer's facilities who provide the highest standard of care in a unique setting. They currently have positions available for General Staff Nurses     

To maintain a high standard of nursing care.
To develop clinical expertise, leadership and teaching skills through nursing practice.
To share responsibility with the nursing team for the management of nursing care and the patients environment under the direction of the CNM/Charge Nurse.
To maintain a high standard of professional and ethical responsibility.
To provide and maintain effective, individualised nursing care by:
Preparing and up-dating the nursing care plans within a nursing framework.
Assisting the medical staff in their treatment of patients through the co-ordination of care and treatments provided by other disciplines and integrating these into care plans.
Involving the patient’s relatives in teaching and supervising them in nursing techniques in preparation for discharge.

Utilise assessment skills and techniques to determine patient needs on admission.
Complete and document the nursing admission assessment in a thorough and accurate manner.
Re-assess the patient’s condition on an on-going basis.
Assess the need for patient/family instruction.
Develop and document plans of care based on patient needs.
Update the written plan of care based on patient needs.
Develop patient teaching and discharge plans as necessary.
Collaborate with other health team members in planning care.

Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to a caseload of patients within the guidelines specified by An Bord Altranais.
Know and practice according to established legal requirements policy and procedures.
Establish care priorities based on nursing/medical patient problems.
Perform procedures accurately, completely and safely.
Maintain a safe environment for patients.
Respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients, serving as an advocate where necessary.
Function quickly and effectively in an emergency situation.
Adapt to changing workload.
Deal with ward incidents and accidents in accordance with unit policy. Accurately record and report details.
Contribute to nursing quality assurance by assisting in the identification of recurring nursing problems and co-operating in data collection.
 Document according to policy and procedures.
Report verbally and in writing pertinent patient care information to appropriate nursing/medical personnel.
Communicate appropriately with patients/relatives and colleagues and other members of the health care team.
Approach interpersonal relationships in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety.
Recognise self-limitations and request assistance.

Support the philosophy, objectives and goals of the unit and Hospital Group.
Follow appropriate lines of authority by discussing issues firstly with Charge  Nurse/ CNM, then with the Director of Nursing.
Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other areas of the Hospital as needed.

Demonstrate ability to organise a caseload of patients.

Use time effectively.
Show ability to delegate work to other members of the team.
Display initiative.
Report on-going problems to CNM/Charge Nurse.
Demonstrate ability to teach and guide more junior staff.
Show interest in Self Development.
